A special ‘Thank you NHS’ celebration event will take place at The Grand in Southport this Saturday (21st January 2023) to pay tribute to her heroes who work in our health service.

The Gala Dinner is being organised by local businessman Andrew Mikhail, who nearly died from Covid-19 during the pandemic.

Dad-of-three Andrew, married to wife Vicky, spent six months in intensive care in hospital and at one point his heart stopped for 17 minutes before doctors brought him back to life.

Andrew will also be welcoming six tables filled with doctors and nurses to the evening free of charge as a way of thanking those that saved his life.

All of the other tables at the fundraising event sold out within 24 hours of them going on sale.

All money raised at tonight’s dinner will be donated to ICU Steps, the UK’s only intensive care patient support charity that supports those who have been affected by critical illness.

Andrew Mikhail, who owns Mikhail Hotel and Leisure, is a significant investor in Southport. He owns The Grand, the Bold Hotel, the Lord Street Hotel, the Lord Street Sports Bar and Punch Tarmey’s Irish themed bar, and also operates the centre bar inside Southport Market.

He said: “I have been overwhelmed by the response since this very special event and my reasons behind hosting it were announced.

“It is my absolute honour to be hosting this gala dinner in support of this amazing charity.

“It seems only fitting that this gala dinner, held in a building I brought back to life, will benefit those who brought me back to life.

“Nothing that I could ever do would be enough to say thank you to the incredible NHS staff but I hope that they can enjoy a special night away from the stresses of their jobs to enjoy themselves for the evening.”

The evening is packed to the rafters with first class entertainment including the ‘King of Swing’ Asa Murphy and the very talented ‘Soul Kinda Wonderful’ who will be singing a mix of floor-filling classics.

The evening will be hosted by Claire Simmo and Mick Miller will also be on the bill to bring laughter to the occasion and to finish in true Mikhail Group style will be the sensational Jack Bennett.

The black-tie dinner will take place in the stunning and stylish Princess Grace Suite.
