Who remembers nights out at The Coronation pub on King Street in Southport? This picture was taken in May 1982! Do you recognise anyone pictured? There appears to be a carriage clock on one of the tables – was this a retirement party?
In the background you can see the McDonalds signs on the building opposite. Was this taken around the time that McDonalds first opened in Southport?

Coronation Street star Jean Alexander, who played Hilda Ogden in the soap, signs autographs for fans at the St George’s Church coffee morning.
Jean Alexander spent many happy years living in Churchtown, and loved Southport.
She led the campaign to ‘Save Southport Library’ when it faced a temporary closure for three and a half years while work was taking place on The Atkinson.
She was always very generous with her time for good causes locally.

The Floral Hall Gardens was a great place to hold events such as car shows.

Finally we have members of the Association of Jewish Ex Servicemen (AJEX) enjoy an event in Southport.
There are lots of standards on display, with several of the ex-soldiers proudly displaying their medals.
The Mayor of Sefton was a guest of honour at the gathering.
There used to be many Armed Forces associations in Southport back in the 1980s: there was AJEX; the Dunkirk Veterans; the Burma Star Association; the Normandy Veterans; and several others.
