A brand new micropub in Southport town centre is opening this week!

Bugle Tap will welcome its first customers from midday on Wednesday 4th March 2026.

The venue is situated at 118 Lord Street, in the unit previously occupied by Plaza Cards.

Guests can enjoy a wide selection of cask and craft ales, German and Belgian beers, small batch spirits and more.

Bugle Tap aims to offer “a laid back atmosphere with bodega and bierkeller vibes”.

Owners David and Vicky Brown, who previously ran The Masons Arms pub nearby, are bringing a vibrant new business into a unit that has been empty for two years.

They said: “We’ve been working hard brewing something special and we couldn’t be more excited to announce that we’ll be opening on Wednesday!

“Our doors open at 12pm and we can’t wait to share this warm and welcoming space with you.

“We hope you’ll like it as much as we do.”

Bugle Tap adds to a real resurgence on Lord Street, with several new businesses opening their doors in recent months.

A new jewellery workshop is opening soon on the opposite side of Lord Street’ Lapel Menswear has opened inside Wayfarers Arcade; the new Coffee King is opening soon; while work is due to start at The Garrick this May.

David and Vicky Brown said: “We’re almost there!

““We’ve not been putting many photos on our social media pages recently as we don’t want to give away too much before our big reveal!

“We recently unwrapped our eagerly-awaited bier font. We will be the exclusive permanent outlet in Southport of Tegernseer Hell.

“It is brewed by Herzoglich Bayerisches Brauhaus Tegernsee, one of Bavaria’s oldest breweries with roots tracing back to the 17th century.

“Nestled on the shores of Lake Tegernsee, the brewery has become a cornerstone of Bavarian beer culture, producing lagers that embody tradition, quality and regional pride.”

David and Vicky said they want The Bugle Tap to become known as “a warm and welcoming space which we hope will be appreciated by the discerning drinker looking for something a bit different from the usual mainstream offering.

“Rest assured we’re working hard behind the scenes sourcing products and are looking forward to The Bugle Tap being a great asset to Southport.”

The Bugle Tap will sell the finest cask and craft ales, German and Belgian beers, small batch spirits and single malts, and will be dog friendly.

The owners ran the Masons Arms for almost five years until September 2024.

They took the Masons from a failing pub and transformed it into one of the busiest and best in Southport.

The pub earned a place in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for three consecutive years and earned a CAMRA award for the quality of its beer.

Plaza Cards in Southport closed its doors for the last time on Saturday 20th January 2024 after more than 60 years trading.

David and Vicky are now eager to revitalise this empty building and bring new life to it, adding another new local independent business to Lord Street.
