An intrepid fundraiser has completed his challenge of running through EVERY postcode in the ‘L’ region of the North West!

It took Alex Rigby over 11 hours to complete his epic ‘Postcode Run’ challenge, covering 52 miles and 40 different postcodes through Ormskirk, Bootle and Liverpool.

He was joined on parts of the route by other members of Liverpool Running Club, where he has been a member for more than seven years.

It has been a huge success, with well-wishers digging deep to help him raise over £3,000 for new facilities at Ainsdale Cricket Club in Southport.

All the funds raised will go towards the club’s new £45,000 practice facility, which is due to open during the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Alex Rigby said: “It was really good! The run went very well.

“I couldn’t have asked for better weather, especially after how cold it’s been recently.

“The support I have had from everyone has been amazing.

“It took me just over 11 hours to complete the challenge. I started out at 6am on Saturday (4th February)  and finished just after 5pm.

“It was a celebration of running alongside different people along the route. It was about getting out there and enjoying it.

“So far I have raised over £3,000 through the challenge, which has been amazing!

“When I first set things up, I set myself a target of £1,000, and expected to raise around £500.

“I thought it would have interested people within the club, but more and more people from outside have got involved and supported it too which has been fantastic.

“The run has been covered in newspapers, on websites, on radio stations, and I am really grateful for everyone’s support.

“It is not just the money raised that has been important, but also raising the profile of Ainsdale Cricket Club, and our appeal.

“I love Ainsdale. It is such a great family club.

“When the new facilities are up and running, hopefully it will attract lots of young players to come along and give them a try, and hopefully they’ll be impressed and be able to enjoy them.

“We are going to be staging a grand opening during the May Bank Holiday and we are really looking forward to it.

“As a club, we have been raising money for the past three years now, and it is fantastic to have reached this point.

“This will be for everyone. It is not just for cricket members. It is all about providing something new for the community of Ainsdale as well.”
