BBC Presenter, Choir Master, Musician and Entertainer, Billy Hui BEM DL, named as the next High Sheriff of Merseyside.

Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside, Billy Hui BEM, is proud, pleased and honoured to announce that he is the incoming High Sheriff of Merseyside 2025/26. The Pricking of The Lites Ceremony took place on 12th March 2025 at 4pm and he was informed an hour later that His Majesty King Charles III had pierced Billy’s name on the document listing his details with the bodkin of Queen Elizabeth I according to tradition and protocol.

Wirral born Billy will continue his work within the entertainment industry at the BBC and with his multi-award winning choir SingMe Merseyside. He is very much looking forward to further supporting a wide range of local charities, voluntary organisations and communities in the role of High Sheriff during this one-year long voluntary ceremonial post. His focus in the coming year will be on arts, creative and cultural industries including Merseyside venues and hubs plus Chinatown and the Chinese community.

Commissioned as a Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside in November 2023, Billy was also proud to receive the British Empire Medal from the late Queen Elizabeth II for services to the people of Merseyside. He is also patron of the Stick ’n’ Step Charity and ambassador for Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals Charity, Amy & Friends Charity, Wirral Globe Arts Ambassador plus Wirral Life Magazine’s Silver Awards Winner for Outstanding Contributions to Arts.

Billy and his partner Kerry, who will be his consort for the High Sheriff year, are excited for this opportunity to further support, highlight and praise the wonderful people and communities based in Merseyside. 

The role will commence following the High Sheriff installation ceremony on Thursday 24th April 2025.
