People are invited to support a new initiative looking to back grassroots ideas to improve Southport.

Awesome Southport would see a group of good Samaritans donating £50 per month, with local people invited to submit their ideas. The winning project would receive £500 to progress their scheme.

Southport MP Patrick Hurley said: “Awesome Southport is looking for a small group of local people who want to back grassroots ideas that could make our town even better.

“The model is simple: contributors put in £50 a month, local people submit ideas, and each month one project receives a £500 grant, with quick decisions and none of the lengthy bureaucracy that can often put small community projects off applying.

“From cultural events and youth projects to public spaces, neighbourhood initiatives and creative ideas, the aim is to give good local ideas the chance to get off the ground.

“The Awesome Foundation model has supported thousands of projects around the world, and “I’d love to see Southport build its own successful chapter.”
