Five fundraisers from the Southport Strollers have raised over £5,000 for Queenscourt Hospice after completing a challenging 50-mile TransPennine Trail.
They smashed their initial target of £500 after huge support from kind-hearted supporters.
A Queenscourt Hospice spokesperson said: “A huge thank you to five amazing members of Southport Strollers Running Club, who took on the gruelling Manchester to Liverpool Ultra on 3 April, completing 50 miles along the TransPennine Trail in support of Queenscourt Hospice.
“Battling six checkpoint cut-offs, constant fuelling, sore feet and plenty of blisters, they completed an incredible challenge, all to help ensure we can continue providing compassionate care to local people and their families.
“Inspired to support Queenscourt after hearing about the financial challenges we face, they set themselves a fundraising target of £500. Thanks to the incredible generosity of their friends, family, colleagues and employer match funding, they have raised an amazing £5,110, more than ten times their original goal!
“To everyone who donated, shared their fundraising page and cheered them on, thank you. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference to the patients and families we support every day.
“From everyone at Queenscourt Hospice, thank you for going the extra 50 miles for us.”
In April, Queenscourt Hospice announced that it will be reducing its in-patient ward from ten to five beds, as it continues to face financial uncertainty.
The news comes just four weeks after the hospice stated that it was being forced to consider reducing the vital services it provides for patients, as it continues to operate with a £2 million deficit.
Queenscourt Hospice has been providing compassionate care for the people of West Lancashire, Formby and Southport for the past 35 years.They care for patients with serious illnesses, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life at each new stage.
Queenscourt cares for patients both in the hospice and at home through their In-Patient Unit, Queenscourt Connect and Queenscourt at Home services. Queenscourt requires over 100 professional staff members to stay open, including Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Physiotherapists and many other roles.
