When BAFTA award-winning comedian Luisa Omielan speaks, people listen – her famous thigh gap joke recently went viral with 45 million views on YouTube!
Sharp, funny and thought-provoking, Luisa is bringing her superb God Is A Woman show to Southport Comedy Festival this Sunday (3rd October).
She will join the strongest line-up yet, which includes: Russell Kane, Rich Hall, Reginald D Hunter, Jo Caulfield, Tom Stade, Ed Byrne, Mark Thomas, Paul Sinha, Tez Ilyas, Luisa Omielan, Hal Cruttenden, Geoff Norcott, Steve Royle, Helen Bauer, Troy Hawke, Katie Tracey, and David Eagle. Tickets are now on sale.
The 10th anniversary Southport Comedy Festival, sponsored by Anthony James Estate Agents, takes place in a luxury marquee at Victoria Park in Southport from this Friday (1st October) until 17th October.
Luisa Omielan is bringing her hit show to Southport fresh from a successful Off-Broadway run.
She already has three ground-breaking hit shows under her belt earning her sell-out shows across the UK and Australia. She has been twice nominated for best show at Melbourne Comedy Festival.
The Guardian describes her as “The biggest stand up hit of the decade” while The Scotsman says: “She should be put on the national curriculum.”
Luisa revealed how her God Is A Woman show is inspired by her Mum, Helena.
She said: “It is based on a love letter to my Mum, who sadly passed away four years ago. The show is empowering, educational, and funny.
“We live in a world at the moment that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Life balance, equality and wealth are not what they should be.
“How many billionaires are there in the world? There is obviously no need for billionaires. Why do they need so much money? If they wanted to, they could solve a lot of the world’s problems by six o’clock today.
“I have been reading a lot of religious books recently. It made me think – where is the female divinity?”
Gods of many religions have generally been portrayed in a male form.
If the universe is ruled by a male figure, perhaps that explains why things in the world have gone so badly over the past 18 months…. If ‘God’ was female, how different would life be?
Luisa said: “If God is a woman, we would see much more balance, much more equality, and the eradication of suffering.”
God Is A Woman aims to encourage people to take charge of their own lives.
Luisa said: “It is trying to tell people of our own power that we all have. It is reminding people that we are here for a reason, that we are all special. There is a lot going on in the show!
“It is a fun show, it is a beautiful show. People who have seen it on the tour so far have really enjoyed it.”
