Workers from Access Point in Southport braved the August heatwave to trek 22 miles between Wigan and Southport as they raised a vital £1,546 for Queenscourt Hospice.
The firm’s ‘Back to the Future Trek’ was held to celebrate Access Point’s 25th birthday.
Walkers were rewarded for their efforts in scorching temperatures with a celebratory barbecue at the iconic Access Point offices.
The firm is based in the former Southport Magistrates’ Court on Albert Road and specialises in providing high footfall promotional space, street food and catering sites and brand experiences.
A spokesperson said: “On August 13th, our team of intrepid explorers from Access Point Ltd braved the scorching 30-33C heat to travel approximately 22 miles on foot and / or bike from Wigan to Southport along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal in support of Queenscourt Hospice.
“We surpassed our initial goal of £500 and raised a whopping £1,546 for this wonderful cause.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored us.”
A Queenscourt Hospice spokesperson said: “We are delighted that Access Point in Southport chose Queenscourt as their Nominated Local Charity’.”
The Back to the Future walk started in Wigan, which is where Access Point first opened in 1997 before moving to Southport in 1999.
The 20-mile route then took the trekkers back to Southport along the canal with a finish back at their offices for further celebrations.
Jeanette Morgan, Managing Director, who is also celebrating her 25-year service anniversary with Access Point this year said: “Since Access Point was born, we have always tried to be innovative with our fundraising ideas. Walking Back to the Future this year to raise funds for Queenscourt Hospice was a great way to join as a team in an activity that we could all participate in.
“Over the years we have acknowledged lots of worthy local charities, and I am thrilled that our employees have chosen Queenscourt this year as our local charity.”
