Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting people to attend its annual baby and child loss remembrance service in December.

The annual service, which is now in its eleventh year, aims to provide an opportunity for anyone who has suffered a baby or child loss (recently or in the past) to come together to find support and to remember their baby.

It will be led by members of the Trust’s spiritual care team with contributions from the, bereavement midwife, rainbow midwives, parents and the Trust’s leadership team.

During the service, there will be poignant performances from the Salvation Army and local singer Wendy Chalke.

There will be an opportunity for families to write the names of their loved ones on a bauble and place these on the Christmas Tree.  Following the service the tree will be taken to the Evergreen (Baby) Garden at Ormskirk Hospital.  Parents are invited to go to the garden anytime in the run up to Christmas and add other baubles to the tree.

Those unable to attend the service, but who would like a Christmas bauble to be placed in their baby or child’s name, can contact the spiritual care and chaplaincy team by emailing soh-tr.chaplains@merseywestlancs.nhs.uk or calling 01704 704639 and they will arrange this on your behalf.

Spiritual Care Lead, Martin Abrams MBE, said:

“The service began 11 years ago following a discussion at a bereavement focus group.  It has grown and evolved since then, but the aim is still the same:  To give space, within the empathy of those who have experienced a loss themselves, to remember and find comfort and support.

People tell us they have found valuable comfort and support by attending the service, some following a recent loss, or others a loss a long time ago.

The invitation to attend is to anyone who would find it helpful to them.’’

The service will take place on Wednesday 3rd December at West Lancashire Crematorium in Burscough with refreshments served from 6pm and the service starting at 6.30pm.
