A Southport writer and poet has written some moving words for a special Remembrance video which will be played before the Everton versus Fulham game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this Saturday (8th November 2025).

Louise Rimmer has worked with the Royal British Legion, Liverpool John Moores University and the Everton FC Foundation to create the video, 80 years after the end of the Second World War.

Louise was an RE teacher at Greenbank High School in Southport between 2014 and 2021.

She then took a PhD in Creative Writing and worked with her husband to open the award-winning Eden Warehouse accommodation in Southport town centre.

A keen Evertonian, she was delighted to be approached by Royal British Legion Community and Engagement Officer Stuart Steel about the prospect of working on this project, which she hopes will resonate with supporters of both teams at the game.

Her previous assignment was writing about the experiences of the Indian Army during the war:  THE FORGOTTEN ARMY

Louise was the playwright in a project led by the Royal British Legion.

Louise said: “I have recently completed a fabulous project with the Royal British Legion and Everton Football Club, to commemorate the soldiers of World War Two.

“The final product is a two minute video, featuring ‘ghosts’ of the soldiers who returned home, via Bramley Moore, in 1945, filmed outside the new Hill Dickinson stadium.

“My poem, entitled ‘Know Your History’ is read by Radio City DJ ‘Rossie’ over the moving footage of fans from 2025 meeting the soldiers of 1945.

“The piece will be broadcast at the stadium this Saturday before the Remembrance Day silence.

“It will be quite symbolic, and thought-provoking, and nostalgic too.

“As a former teacher, at Greenbank High School in Southport, I am a big believer that you can’t be what you can’t see. I’d like to set an example to working class writers.

“I was so pleased on Thursday to see Southport launch its exciting new events programme for 2026, a year which will really highlight and give a platform to the huge wealth of creative talent that we have in our town.

“I’d love to celebrate local creativity and encourage other working-class poets in Southport to keep writing!”
