Stand Up For Southport Blog by Andrew Brown
It was encouraging to see so much building work happening in Southport today – and there’s lots more to come.
Every corner I turned in Southport town centre there was something happening, from big schemes to small.
It’s always a good sign in any town when it’s full of builders. It signals progress. Improvement. Momentum.

People always talk about Easter as a time of rebirth and renewal but September seems a good time too.
Once these schemes are up and running it’s going to make a huge difference to our town; new life being breathed into sites which have been vacant for years, which will only encourage further investment.
Today I saw improvements happening at the former BHS building on Chapel Street; in the Market Quarter (excited to see the new Catherine’s on King Street); the former Southport Visiter office on Tulketh Street; the new Footy Nation attraction at Ocean Plaza; Delizzi’s on Wesley Street; the new LOL Bingo on Lord Street; the former Leo’s bar on Nevill Street; the old restaurant on Bold Street.

Work is ongoing on the Marine Lake Events Centre, which will be transformational for Southport; funding is committed to restore and reopen Southport Pier; £10m is due to be spent to transform the Town Hall Gardens on Lord Street; a new padel facility is coming to Victoria Park, where the capacity has been increased from 10,000 to 15,000 visitors to enable even more substantial events to be staged.
There is more to come!
It’s great to see so much progress happening in so many places.
We all just want to see these schemes being completed and open for business!

They all point to a brighter future for Southport.
This time next year we’ll be looking at a town which appears very different than it does now; perfect timing with the Open Golf championship rolling in for 2026.
With all eyes on Southport at a time when it has so much going on, hopefully it will be an increasingly attractive proposition for even more investors.
