Review: Horrible Histories – Gorgeous Georgians & Vile Victorians, The Atkinson, Southport
History was never like this in school! The Atkinson is playing host to four showings of Horrible Histories – Gorgeous Georgians & Vile Victorians, and it’s been delighting audiences.
We took our two girls after school, with tea at Southport Market followed by a walk across to the theatre.
There is such a huge range of shows on at The Atkinson with something for people of all ages, including a busy autumn programme.
Gorgeous Georgians & Vile Victorians is at The Atkinson from Friday 5th September – Saturday 6th September 2025 as part of a British tour.
With the school summer holidays over, it’s a great time for a back to school treat.
From the first minute to the last, this was a lively, riotous, tornado through this colourful era in British history.
It wasn’t what you’d find in the history books, but there were lots of recognisable characters; the Florence Nightingale; Georgian kings; Dick Turpin; The Duke Of Wellington; and more.
The performers carry out sketches about hangings, cholera, baby farms, highway robbery, the madness of King George III with great songs, dances, water pistols, and plenty of bad jokes.
Who knew learning could be this fun?
It’s gross, it’s shocking, it’s lively and a great night out. The kids (and the adults) loved it.
A history lesson that definitely kept everyone entertained.
