Long-serving NHS staff at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust have been celebrated with a special thank you event.

Staff from a wide range of roles who have worked at Southport and Ormskirk hospitals and in the community for 25 and 40 years were recognised at a special ceremony held at West Tower in Ormskirk.

This year 104 staff were eligible for awards with a combined total of 2,795 years of working in the NHS between them.

Those attending the ceremonies were praised by Chairman Steve Rumbelow and Chief Executive Rob Cooper.

Rob said: “When we talk about ‘long service’, we’re not just counting years. We’re acknowledging decades of care given and numerous lives touched.

“The NHS is built on people like you, who selflessly dedicate their entire careers to caring for others. I receive so many letters and emails from people, both patients and families, who are beyond grateful, not only for what you do – but the kind and caring way that you do it.

“Thank you for choosing to spend your career with us and demonstrating what commitment truly means. We are incredibly proud of you all”.
