Southport FC striker Marcus Carver scored a hat-trick

King’s Lynn 1 Southport FC 4

On a baking hot afternoon Southport FC pulled off a sensational 4-1 win at King’s Lynn.

A Marcus Carver perfect hat-trick, right foot, left foot and header secured all three points.

As has been the case in recent games the visitors started slowly, and but for a superb Chris Renshaw save and a header that rattled the post, could have been 2-0 down.

Once they settled into the game there was no mistake and four first half goals Carver 21, 29 and 42 minutes with a superb Jack Doyle free kick sandwiched in between in the 23rd minute there was no way back for the home side.

Southport FC were carving open the home defence at will and helped by some sloppy defending they took full advantage and cruised into the lead.

A goal at the start of the second half, prodded home after a scramble gave the home side some hope but Southport saw the game out well in blistering heat.

Marcus had a great chance to become only the second player to grab 4 league goals in a game (John Coleman is the only other player to do it) but with the goal at his mercy it somehow went wide.

A fantastic afternoon and as Jim says in his post match the 5 hours coming on the coach with an early departure and late home will be much easier to bear after a performance like that.

You have to give the MOTM to a player scoring a hat-trick so Marcus gets it but a special mention to David Morgan who was outstanding today.
