Guest Blog by Catrin Hughes Volunteer Centre Sefton

If recent tragic events have taught us one thing, community and helping each other out makes a difference.

Volunteer Centre Sefton would like to thank the volunteers, who helped to clean up after the riots; their efforts have shown what kind of community Southport truly is.

We would also like to thank and recognise those who have volunteered to look after the flowers, teddies and tributes left by the thousands of people who wanted to pay their respects.

Volunteering, people giving up their time for nothing in return, is at the heart of strong and resilient communities. This is why we are working with Stand Up For Southport to bring to you the latest volunteering roles in the area.

 Volunteer Taster Sessions

We have two volunteer taster sessions coming up for those who would like to take some time to give back to their local community, learn more about the organisations and make Sefton a better place to live for all.

Tuesday 8th October, 10am-3pm – Environmental Volunteering Taster Session with Friends of Waterloo Seafront Gardens and East Street Triangle. Get stuck into garden maintenance and litter picking to keep this beautiful area looking its best. Register your interest here.

Wednesday 6th November, 10am-3pm – Birkdale Community Hub and Library and Liverpool Road Methodist Church. We will be helping them make the front garden area of the church into a beautiful flower area ready to welcome people joining their new activity groups. On the day, we will be clearing the area, weeding, brushing and planting hundreds of bulbs. You can come for the whole day, or just a few hours. Register your interest here.

We welcome those who are using volunteer days from their workplace. If you would like more information email [email protected]

North West Air Ambulance are looking for volunteers for their Southport shop and to help at their events.

Their Tulketh Street Shop are looking for customer facing volunteers to meet and greet, work the till and help put stock on the shelves.

Alternatively, you can support North West Air Ambulance at a number of fundraising events across Merseyside. These events include helping to run a charity stall and pop up shop at Liverpool Comic Con in November and a bucket collection at a choir performance outside John Lewis, Liverpool One, in December.
