Patrick Hurley has been voted in as the first ever Labour MP for Southport.
Labour has also won the 2024 General Election overall, with votes still being counted across the UK.
Mr Hurley earned 17,252 votes; with the previous MP, Conservative candidate Damien Moore, second on 11,463 votes.
He secured a 13.2% swing and won by nearly 6,000 votes.
Andrew Lynn (Reform) was third with 7,395 votes.

There was a turnout of 45,186 (61.36%).
Patrick Hurley said: “I feel relieved the campaign is over. I am eager to get working.
“The town has seen better days; if you walk down Lord Street it looks tired.
“People have been mentioning the Pier being closed to me on the doorstep and everywhere looks like it’s seen better days and needs investment.
“Southport’s always had pockets of deprivation, but under the Tory government those pockets have expanded.”
There was a change in the boundaries this time, which has seen Ainsdale become part of the Sefton Central Constituency.
That seat was held by Labour MP Bill Esterson, while sitting Labour MP Peter Dowd held Bootle.
It means every seat in Merseyside is now held by Labour MPs.
There was a 47,675 (64.18%) turnout for Sefton Central.
Bill Esterson (Labour) won with 26,772 votes, beating Marcus Bleasadale (Conservative) on 8,490 votes.
BBC Radio Merseyside Political Reporter Claire Hamilton will be broadcasting a General Election special from Waterfront Southport Hotel between 6am and 10am this Friday (5th July 2024), with interviews and analysis.
The Southport results in 2019 saw Damien Moore (Conservative) win with a majority of 4,147, with 22,914 votes; Labour was second with 18,767 votes; the Lib Dems were third with 6,499 votes.
In 2019 the turnout was 68%.
