Today is the hottest day of the year, as the heatwave continues and temperatures soar, but don’t worry – here in Southport we have plenty of ways to keep cool!
Merseyrail is asking people to avoid travelling unless necessary, while Sefton Director of Public Health is asking people to be careful and to prepare for the heat.
For those who are out, here are some great ways to keep cool – if you know of any others, please post your pictures and your ideas into our Stand Up For Southport Facebook group!
1 – Stay Ventilated

Cool down with the breeze in your hair as you spin round Silcock’s Carousel on the Pier Forecourt!
The coolest way to enjoy the heatwave. Stay chilled with a delicious ice cream from the Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant afterwards.
2 – Keep Cool

People at Southport Pleasureland have been enjoying the amusement park’s water feature to cool off this week!
Earlier this week, the park announced free entry for people, with discounts for people who buy ride wristbands in advance here: www.southportpleasureland.com
3 – Stay refreshed

Southport is alive with cafe culture, with scores of great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, hotels and other venues where you can sit outside (hopefully in the shade!) and enjoy a nice cooling drink, at places such as Ra Bar, the Beer Inn, Silcock’s Pier Family Restaurant, The Windmilkl, Punch Tarmey’s Cafe Bar N’Ista, Harbour Bar, Remedy, La Tabella,
Where is your favourite place? Please let us know!
4 – Stay in the shade

Southport is also full of lots of shaded, hidden, secret beer gardens, such as the Fox & Goose, the MonumenT, Skies, the Masons Arms, and others.
Lots of places to sit back and enjoy a nice cooling drink.
5 – Cool down with an ice cream

This week saw Visit Southport celebrating National Ice Cream Day!
We have lots of superb ice cream venues in Southport, including Silcock’s Flavours iand Rossi’s on Nevill Street, Antonio’s Italian Style Ice Cream on Lord Street, and others, plus some much-needed ice cream vans!
Where’s your tip for great ice cream?
