An independent record store owner in Southport is counting down the days until Christmas, as he reveals some of his favourite songs – and the ones he hates the most.
Quicksilver Music on Market Street in Southport town centre is among some superb local businesses in the town which have a huge amount to offer to Christmas shoppers, with plenty of unique, carefully thought-out gifts to choose from.
Shopping locally is even more appealing this year with a postal strike and a rail strike taking place.
Quicksilver Music owner Dave Thornley said: “People are thinking about all things Christmas!
“I’m a big fan of Christmas and particularly Christmas music.
“”But some of it is a bit ropey.
“We have lots of vinyl! Everyone’s into vinyl at the moment.
“One of my favourite Christmas songs is The Pogues’ A Fairytale Of New York. It’s a masterclass in production.
“One of my other favourite Christmas songs is Driving Home For Christmas by Chris Rea.”
Dave, who has a huge selection of festive LPs including an old Top Of The Pops Christmas Special, said: “I absolutely love Christmas songs but there has been some absolute rubbish.
“One of my most hated Christmas songs is Stop The Cavalry by Jonah Louis. You walk into a supermarket and you hear it – I hate it. And that Macca (Paul McCartney) one. It’s horrible.
“We have an album here, Christmas With Bing Crosby.
“Did you know that in the 1950s and 1960s the biggest selling LPs were soundtracks, musicals, and Christmas LPs?
“All the cool dudes just bought 45s, and the Mums and Dads bought Christmas records!
“Another favourite of mine is Ella Fitzgerald’s A Swinging Christmas.
“So get down to Quicksilver Music! Come down and pay me a visit.
“If you’re wondering about presents for your family, your friends, your loved ones, we do vouchers, because you might get them something that they already have.
“I wish everyone a festive time! Take care.”
