The Atkinson in Southport is getting ready to stage a very special Armed Forces Day event this June to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two – and they’d love your help!

The cultural hub on Lord Street will be hosting a series of exciting guests, pop-up exhibitions, features and items – with more details to be announced soon – as the building opens specially between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 29th June 2025.

Something that people can look forward to is a unique World War Two themed fashion show, featuring both men’s and women’s fashions from the era.

The fashion show will be staged using costumes kindly provided on the day by Angela Brown. The show will feature 10 male models and 10 female models from 611 Air Cadets Squadron in Southport.

Joanne Chamberlain, the Heritage & Participation Officer at The Atkinson said: “This is a truly unique fashion show made possible through the kind support of Angela Brown and her remarkable collection of 1940s fashion.

“We would love to hear if there are any make-up artists or hairdressers who are interested in working with us on the day to create 1940s styles for our models from 611 Air Cadets Squadron?

“The fashion show is due to take place at The Atkinson at around 2.30pm / 3pm and we would love to have someone with us to do hair and make-up from around 1pm.

“If anyone is interested please email me at: Joanne.Chamberlain@sefton.gov.uk and I will look forward to chatting more about what we can create together.”

The Armed Forces Day commemorations will start at 10.15am with the Ukrainian Choir.
