One of the two Wetherspoon pubs in Southport town centre is closing.

The Willow Grove, on Lord Street, is due to close its doors in early 2023.

It originally opened under the firm’s Lloyds No 1 brand but was converted into a Wetherspoon.

The Sir Henry Segrave Wetherspoon pub at the southern end of Lord Street in Southport will remain open.

Proposals to open a new 28-bed Wetherspoon Hotel in the Pavilion Buildings above the Sir Henry Segrave are still due to go ahead.

The chain, run by millionaire Tim Martin, declined to comment on the reason for the closure or give an exact date but said it will happen before April.

Willow Grove is spread across two floors in a large space on the corner of Lord Street and Nevill Street in a site which has undergone frequent maintenance work over the past year.

It currently opens from breakfast until late night and was not included in a November announcement of 32 planned Wetherspoon closures.
