The opening hours of the new Southport Market have been revealed as the opening day of this “outstanding venue” was hailed a huge success.

Pizza ovens have fired, pies have risen and ice cream scooped as the first customers of the brand new Southport Market enjoyed its launch yesterday (Thursday, 22nd July).

Hundreds of Sangdrounders and tourists visited the refurbished market to sample delights from around the world, with ten stalls and traders, as well as a feature bar and drinks space, to choose from.

Billed as the North West’s newest food and drink experience, Southport Market combines an incredible mix of local talent from across the resort and an array of international delicacies at the heart of the town’s revamped market quarter.

Southport Market will be open:

Mon and Tue closed

Wed 10am-10pm

Thursday 10am-10pm

Friday 10am-11pm

Sat 10am-11pm

Sunday 10am-8pm

The £1.4million scheme, which is a key enabler and an early part of Sefton Council’s Covid-19 recovery plan for Southport, is also supported by a flexible events area able to host high-quality pop-up markets along with other events.

Funding has been made available through £900,000 from Southport Town Deal and £500,000 from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

Councillor Marion Atkinson, Sefton Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills, said: “Our new Southport Market is an outstanding venue which is the result of tireless and dedicated work by Sefton Council.

“The food and drink offer is the perfect complement to the rejuvenation of the Market Quarter and wider Southport town centre.

“Not only is this a much-needed addition to the hospitality offer in Sefton but it also generates local jobs and provides a further boost to the economic fortunes of our borough as we look to bounce back post-pandemic.

“Southport Market has something for everyone and already we have seen hundreds of awestruck faces as we welcomed people here for the first time.

“Every single trader comes to the market with a passion and desire to succeed and we remain incredibly confident that this will very quickly become one of the North West’s best food and drink gems.”
