Kind-hearted footballers players between 60 and 90 years old will be playing football for 24 hours to fundraise after the tragedy in which three young girls were killed in Southport.

Southport Veterans and Walking football enthusiasts will embark on a 24-hour, 5-a-side Football Marathon at Dunes Leisure Centre in Southport from Wednesday, 18th September 2024 through to Thursday, 19th September 2024.

It follows a knife attack which saw the tragic deaths of Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven; Bebe King, aged six, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, aged nine.

The three girls were all killed as they attended a Taylor Swift themed dance and yoga class at the Hart Space in Southport on 29th July 2024. Several other girls and adults were badly injured and others left traumatised.

The goal of the 24 hour football match aims to raise £3,000, equally divided between the following Schools, that were attended by Alice, Bebe and Elsie Dot:

– Churchtown Primary School

– Marshside Primary School

– Farnborough Road Junior and Infants School

Event organiser Steven Thompson said: “The schools can utilise the money in any way that they see fit, the choice is theirs.

“Many players have personal connections to these schools, with children or grandchildren who are, or were pupils, and some even attended these schools themselves.

“We believe that directing sponsorship directly to these Schools will greatly benefit the local children and allow us, at the other end of the age spectrum, to contribute back to our cherished community.

“Southport FC, Everton FC and Liverpool FC have agreed to support our cause, and we urge the local community to help us reach our financial goal.

“The event will commence at Dunes Leisure Centre in Southport on the five-a-side pitches at 10am on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.”
