People will be able to sip sparkling wine while being pampered in a new Southport town centre beauty salon after plans were approved by Sefton Council.
Meggi Lashes Salon had sought permission to be able to use the building as a beauty salon where alcohol is served to customers waiting for treatment.
The salon, which is expanding after moving from Union Street, is now situated at 2 Wright Street, on the corner of Wright Street and Mornington Road, opposite Fletchers Solicitors and Southport College.
It will now see a growth from one full-time employee to four full-time employees and five part-time employees.
In a report, Sefton’s Planning team said: “The existing property has been used for offices. This application seeks planning permission for the change of use to a beauty salon with associated waiting / bar area where they would serve alcoholic drinks to clients of the beauty salon.
“The proposals will ensure the building is kept in commercial use and make a positive contribution to the economic function of the area.
“It would not have an unacceptable impact on living conditions, the appearance of the street and would not harm the vitality and viability of the town centre.
“There are existing residential properties adjacent to the site, however there is a good degree of separation between the building and neighbouring properties
“The application form states the opening hours would be 9am-8pm Monday to Friday; 9am-6pm Saturdays; and 10am-6pm Sundays and bank holidays; these are acceptable and could be secured by planning conditions to prevent noise and disturbance to nearby residents at unsociable hours.”
The application has been submitted by Meggi Salon Ltd.
It was drawn up by Southport firm Andrew Cunningham Building Design.
In the application they said: said: “The Applicant has run a successful beauty salon in Union Street for some years and is now expanding their business with a larger salon on Wright Street.
“The existing building is being converted and will provide new treatment rooms as well as a waiting area which will also include a bar for customer use only.
“The intention is that customers will be given a drink such as a glass of sparkling wine while waiting for their appointment as part of their treatment package.
“The bar is not a drinking establishment and members of the public will not be able to purchase alcohol unless it is part of a treatment package.
“Whilst the address is for Wright Street, the building actually faces onto Mornington Road. The site is located in a good area for the proposed use. The site includes good off street parking provision as well as excellent proximity to town centre amenities.
“Existing car parking provision will be retained and exceed the requirements of the business. The premises are well positioned for customers using public transport.
“The proposal will enable an established and successful local business to continue to grow to the benefit of the local community as well as the town’s economic development.
“By serving drinks to customers waiting for treatment the business will be able to meet rising customer expectations.”
