Thousands of runners of all ages will race through Southport this morning (Sunday 9th February 2025) as the annual Southport Mad Dog 10k race sponsored by Jollyes – The Pet People takes place.
To enable the event to take place various temporary road closures will take place between 6am and 12.30pm in the Southport seafront area, for full details please see the link below.
For the first time, the race will start and end at Victoria Park in Southport, a change from the previous Stanley High School venue.
The role of the VIP launching the race goes to Adrian Shandley, the Race Director who led and grew the event over many years through his role with Southport Hesketh Round Table.
Runners will once again run along the scenic Marine Drive seafront route.
Access will be maintained for Emergency Services, and wherever possible for residents.
The main diversion route will be via Shore Road, Kenilworth Road, Liverpool Road, Waterloo Road, Lulworth Road, Lord Street West, Lord Street, Albert Road, Park Crescent, Cambridge Road, Preston New Road and vice versa.

Not only will you find live bands around the course, but each year there is a new event theme, and with that theme there is a fancy dress competition!
This year’s theme is: Dog Pool and Wolferine.
It is always a fun event with lots of runners in fancy dress; competitors from running clubs all over the country; people of all ages and abilities; and live music at stages around the scenic course.
The Mad Dog 10K, sponsored by Jollyes – The Pet People, isn’t just for runners—it’s a day for the whole family.
Organisers said: “We’ve reluctantly had to change our beloved route this year due to construction, but we’ve worked hard to keep all the iconic scenery you love—and it’s still flat for our runners!
“This year, we’re thrilled to announce that the start and finish will be in the beautiful Victoria Park in Southport! Not only will this give our runners more space to enjoy the day, but it also means convenient parking right by the start / finish line!”
