The multi award-winning Windmill pub in Southport is celebrating TWO big accolades at one event as it looks forward to taking part in the first ever Southport Beer Week.

The historic pub on Seabank Road won the title of Southport Pub, Bar or Club of the Year in two categories, impressing both the judging panel for the first accolade and then the public vote for the second.

The Business Leaders Award and the People’s Choice Award trophies now sit proudly in place in the pub alongside the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards Pub Of The Year Finalist awards which The Windmill has won for the past four years in a row.

The Your Southport Stars Awards are organised by Southport BID to celebrate the excellent local businesses we have in Southport town centre.

As Southport Beer Week takes place from Thursday 22nd May through to Sunday 25th May 2025, you’ll be able to call in and explore why The Windmill has just been recognised as the Southport Pub Of The Year with some special events for visitors to enjoy.

The pub is famous for many things, including its superb home cooked food; the quality of its real ale; the cosiness of its traditional pub interior; the roaring log fire in winter; the sunny beer garden; the many events that they hold; the ongoing support for the local community.

The Windmill landlord Tom Hodgin said:

“This week was the Southport Stars Awards hosted by Southport BID and we cleaned up in our category.

“We won both awards in our category: Pub, Club and Bar of the Year voted by the public and you, our fabulous customers, AND voted by the board members of  Southport BID.

“The board recognised our work within the community, working with other local businesses, offering apprentice opportunities to younger people and our charity work with the local Air Cadets.

“We are so proud of what we do within our community and thank you to all our customers past and present for your support and voting for us.

“From Team Windmill, Neil, Tom, Emma, Dan, Adam, Rich, Katie, Jamie, Hayley, Yvonne, Josh and Sheila thank you. We love what we do and we’re over the moon that you do too.”

The team are now looking forward to Southport Beer Week.

Neil Walsh said:

“We are keen to organise a BBQ to take place on Saturday (24th May 2025) if the weather’s good.

“We are also speaking with some of the shops along Market Street to see if they’re keen to take part in a pop-up shopping event.

“We are always keen to work collaboratively with other local businesses and to help where we can.

“We will have five handpull real ales on offer during Southport Beer Week for people to try.

“Customers can come in and get their stamps for the Ale Trail competition with every beer they buy.

“It is the first time we have done anything like Southport Beer Week as a town.

“The pubs and bars in Southport town centre and Southport BID have worked well together to put this event together.

“It’s a brilliant idea! I hope people come out and support it. It’s a great way of showcasing the brilliant pubs and bars we have here in Southport which offer real ale and craft ale, and encouraging people to come and explore and discover somewhere new.”

Southport Beer Week is the perfect opportunity to discover (or re-discover) our town’s great venues and taste some brilliant beers. There will be beer-themed events and mini-festivals too.

The Ale Trail is your passport to exploring Southport Beer Week.  Purchase a beer in one of the participating venues and collect a stamp.  Accumulate seven stamps to complete your trail booklet and you could be in with the chance of winning £250 in vouchers for a Southport business of your choice.
