The Atkinson on Lord Street in Southport is due to be lit up blue this evening (Sunday (17th May 2026) is recognition of the #ShineALightOnNF campaign for World NF Awareness Day.
As NF is still a relatively unknown condition, Nerve Tumours UK’s attempts to raise awareness are greatly valued by the NF Community, uplifting and empowering them.
Seeing buildings and landmarks light up locally, nationally and internationally, gives the community a sense of acceptance and pride.
Over 220 buildings and landmarks across the UK will be lit up in blue tonight.
A few are lighting up on alternative dates during May.
The campaign aims to raise awareness to help those living with NF, so they receive the correct support, and to campaign for funding for better services.
Nerve Tumours UK, the working name for The Neurofibromatosis Association, funds a unique Specialist Support Network to help the 26,500+ people, living in the UK, who are diagnosed with NF.
NF is the group name for a set of neuro genetic conditions that cause tumours to grow on nerve endings: Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), NF2-related Schwannomatosis (NF2), and Schwannomatosis (SWN), along with their carers, families, and wider support network, including the many medical professionals and other allied healthcare professionals, who support those with the condition.
The charity provides support, advice and information via its Specialist Support Network, which comprises regionally based nurses, a national helpline, a fully accessible website, clinical guidelines, regional information days, medical guidelines and leaflets.
