Stand Up For Southport Blog Post

Welcome to the 10,000th article on our Stand Up For Southport website – we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has joined our Stand Up For Southport community!

We started out six years ago, with a passion to shout out about the many positive things happening in our town; to celebrate the amazing people who live and work here; to shine a spotlight on the many events; to issue a call to arms to support the many charity and community initiatives which take place.

During that time our following across our various social media platforms has grown to over 100,000 people who share our passion for all that’s good about Southport.

It’s a great space for sharing your photos and your thoughts on what you love about our town!

So if you visit a great local cafe, shop, attraction, restaurant – we’d love to see your posts shouting about why people should go and visit!

If you enjoy a superb Southport event, we’d love to see your photos.

Southport looking good? Take a picture and share.

It’s very easy to knock somewhere. We’d love to encourage more people to talk about what’s good.

It’s still important to campaign where change is needed.

We were among those campaigning for funding to be secured for the restoration of Southport Pier; we were involved in the campaign for Southport Town Deal funding; we continue to campaign for better rail services for Southport; we believe the Botanic Gardens Aviary should be saved.

We co-founded the Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards four years ago with Mikhail Hotel And Leisure Group, which continues to shine a spotlight on our local heroes.

Southport’s media has undergone huge changes over the past decade.

The Southport Visiter website has gone. The Midweek Visiter free newspaper has gone. The Southport Visiter offices are being turned into apartments and shops. Champion Newspapers has closed.

Stand Up For Southport aims to provide local news, sport, what’s on and business locally, written by people who live in this town, and are part of the local community.

We love to welcome guest blogs and guest columns from local people and organisations, such as Volunteer Centre Sefton, Queenscourt Hospice, and many more – message us if you have something you’d like us to publish.

We think Southport is a very special place with some incredibly special people, with a real sense of community.

It’s a town which has been through so much. It’s emerging stronger, with improvements happening all the time.

Any place in the world is only as good as the people who live and work here want it to be.

So thank you to everyone who’s proud of this place and wants to shout about it to other people – telling the world why they should come and visit and enjoy spending time here.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us to Stand Up For Southport.
