The new attraction will provide multi-sensory entertainment and pure escapism for families “on a different scale” to what they have seen before as a £1million transformation nears completion.

The site will be filled with: over 100 trees; hundreds of plants of different colours, shapes and scents; hundreds of gallons of water flowing throughout the course; a new ‘longhouse’ themed eatery and bar; plus lots of specially created Viking themed props, including hundreds of custom made wooden Viking warrior shields.

The adventure golf course is environmentally sensitive too with wood used for construction reclaimed from the former zoo which stood nearby several years ago and from trees which were blown down during the fierce storms which struck the coastline earlier this year.

Earlier this year, Southport Pleasureland CEO Norman Wallis revealed his commitment for the family attraction to become the first net zero carbon theme park in the UK.

While the future is firmly in mind, so is the past. This weekend, a brand new ‘Barnum In The Blood’ exhibition opens at The Atkinson in Southport which explores the heritage of Southport Pleasureland and the background of Mr Wallis’ own family can be traced back across seven generations providing attractions and amusements for members of the public.

Mr Wallis said: “We are working hard on putting the finishing elements to the new Viking themed adventure golf course but when it is complete, it is going to be really something very special.

“I am looking to open this new attraction for mid-July, in time for the school summer holidays.

“There is nowhere else anything like this. It is going to be a wonderful place for families to visit, which will appeal to people of all ages.

“Many crazy golf courses are limited in their appeal to mainly younger children, but this will be perfect for younger children, older teenagers, and adults alike.

“It will be great for escapism. Looking at it from the road, you can’t really tell quite what it is.

“Once you are inside, there are so many new trees and plants here with so many textures, shapes and smells; so many water features; and so many features including bridges, walkways, structures and Viking paraphernalia, that it will feel as though you have been transported to another place.

“We have been making hundreds of Viking shields over the last few weeks, which look really good.

“The new longhouse will provide visitors with Viking grilled chicken and a bar area; people will be able to sit on the patio outside and watch people enjoying playing adventure golf.”

Celebrity TV gardener Matt Leigh has been among the experts who have been helping to create the new attraction.

The Gardener, Designer and Project Manager has built his reputation through creating gardens on ITV’s Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh.

He has carefully selected around 100 trees plus hundreds of plants to create four very different ‘zones’ within the new attraction: Boat Yard; Marshland; Village Life; and Market Place.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a huge variety of different colours, smells and textures, with the adventure golf boasting huge sensory benefits.

This is an exciting time for Southport Pleasureland, which earlier this year opened its brand new 35-metre high observation wheel, called The Southport Big Wheel.

The park has also secured planning permission for a spectacular new 260 metre long roller coaster which will run adjacent to Marine Drive.

Following Sefton’s great initiative and promise on Climate Change Emergency Implementation Plan, Norman Wallis CEO of Southport Pleasureland earlier this year revealed his commitment for the family attraction to become the first net zero carbon theme park in the UK.

In April he revealed exciting plans for a brand new Dinosaur Park in Southport that will lead the way in environmentally friendly attractions.
