People travelling between Southport and Liverpool are facing travel chaos this evening, with fallen trees blocking the railway line – and also roads.
Gale force winds from Storm Franklin – the third storm to hit the area this week – have torn down a tree onto the Northern Rail railway line, blocking the line between Ainsdale and Freshfield.
It has meant the cancellation of a number of services, which are now starting and terminating at Formby.
Merseyrail has put a rail replacement bus service into operation.
Unfortunately that is also now meeting with delays too, due to trees being brought down in Ince Blundell.
People are now being urged not to travel tonight unless their journey is absolutely vital.

A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately due to trees being brought down by strong winds, both the Northern Line and subsequent replacement bus services are meeting with extreme disruption.
“Please consider alternative transport or rearranging plans unless journeys are absolutely essential.”
A Merseyrail spokesperson said: “We apologise for any inconvenience.
“Due to a fallen tree on the track in the Ainsdale area, services will now start and terminate at Formby.
“Due to a fallen tree Blocking the road in the Incewood area, the rail replacement buses will be subject to delay.”
The stormy weather has also led to parks including Botanic Gardens in Churchtown being closed due to concerns over falling branches and trees.
A Sefton Council spokesperson said: “Churchtown Primary School is OPEN tomorrow; however due to the closure of Botanic Gardens, only the Sunny Road entrance to the school will be accessible.
“This is due to high winds and potentially weakened trees from Storm Franklin and Storm Eunice.”
