Get ready for 12 local people to be jailed in Southport this Friday (15th September 2023) – and we need your help to get them out!

They will all be ‘locked up’ at the former Southport Magistrates’ Court as part of our first ever Jail and Bail fundraiser, organised between Queenscourt Hospice and Stand Up For Southport, with every penny going to the hospice.

Our Stand Up For Southport Facebook group – with its 25,000 local followers – will see a Jail or Bail takeover this Friday, where you can see live video, photos details and more about all the ‘inmates’ on trial and taking part in a series of fun challenges throughout the day.

They each need to raise at least £999 in bail money, all of which goes to Queenscourt, in order to win their freedom.

If you spot our chain gang out and about on Friday please post your pictures into Stand Up For Southport!

You can donate to their ‘bail’ money – the names and the JustGiving pages for all 12 are below.

We have headteachers, NHS staff, local business people, a radio DJ, Queenscourt staff and others all taking part.

The fun fundraisers will each be ‘arrested’ by police, ‘charged’ for a variety of heinous crimes, ‘stand trial’ in the dock at the former Southport Magistrates’ Court (now Access Point) – before being ‘jailed’ in the cells below the courtroom.

The main fundraising page is here, where you can find details of all 12: Jail & Bail 2023 – JustGiving

You’ll see lots of Jail and Bail coverage across social media on Friday as inmates appeal for people’s support.

Queenscourt Hospice Fundraising Manager Liz Hartley said:

“We are really excited to host our first ever Jail and Bail fundraiser this Friday!

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to all 12 of our fundraisers taking part.

“They are all great sports, and are all huge supporters of Queenscourt Hospice.

“We are extremely grateful to all the local companies and organisations who are supporting us to make Jail and Bail possible, including Access Point, Southport BID, The Cheshire Lines, Dave Brown Photography and others – we can’t mention some yet without giving away some of our challenges! We will mention them on the day and after the event.

“This is an important fundraiser for us but it is also a great way of raising awareness of the vital work that Queenscourt does – and how we rely on the fundraising efforts of local people to support the services which we provide.

“Please give everyone taking part in Jail and Bail all the support you can.”

Stand Up For Southport Founder Andrew Brown said:

“Thank you to everyone who has donated to our twelve superb ‘inmates’ already.

“Now we need your help to raise enough money to ensure all of them can win their freedom from ‘jail’ and go and spend the weekend with their families!

“Stand Up For Southport will be dedicated to Jail and Bail this Friday daytime – and we need your help!

“Please honk your horn or wave if you spot our convicts in town, please share their posts as they appeal for donations, please boost their fundraising efforts for Queenscourt Hospice if you can.

“We’d love to see your pictures too if you see them in Southport!

“We wanted to make Jail and Bail a really fun, exciting and interactive way of raising much-needed funds for Queenscourt and we hope everyone taking part enjoys it!

“It’s also vital to raise awareness of what an incredible charity Queenscourt Hospice truly is and about the importance of the work they carry out in our community.

“We would be lost without them and they deserve our support.”
