Southport Waterloo AC Running Club is inviting people to join them in a special event as part of the #thisgirlcan  – Let’s Lift the Curfew campaign.

Anyone keen to take part should meet the organisers at Ocean Plaza in Southport for 6.30pm on Wednesday 29th October 2025 6.30pm.

The club wants to raise awareness of increasing safety for women as nights get darker in the winter months.

A Southport Waterloo AC Running Club spokesperson said: “This October we are supporting the #thisgirlcan let’s lift the curfew campaign, showcasing women’s stories and concerns around getting active outdoors in the darker months.

“As part of this, we are hosting an all abilities social 5km run from Ocean Plaza in Southport to champion awareness around making getting outdoors safer for women, especially during the dark winter months.

“All are welcome, our friendly run leaders will make sure no one is left behind.

“You do not need to be a member of the club to join, simply sign up online via this link: https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/SWACRunClub/Runs/Summary/2c60d206-640a-488a-b67e-3e4474ffcb35

“Whilst we will be championing women’s safety, this is not a women’s only run – all genders are welcome, all that we ask is that you support this important cause as an ally.

“If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we hope to see you there!”
