Frontline staff at Southport Pleasureland are making the most of the closed season by brushing up on their health, safety and customer service qualifications.
As part of their Investment in People, Pleasureland management arranged the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) Working Safely course for all the maintenance team as well as other key team supervisors.
The park’s new training room, with online training facilities, was the venue for the one-day course designed to boost business performance, staff motivation and safety awareness.
The high impact programme is a completely different approach to safety and health training and is designed to be fun and inclusive.
Modules included introducing working safely, defining hazard and risk, identifying common hazards and improving safety performance.
Norman Wallis, CEO of Southport Pleasureland, said:
“We take safety and health very seriously and this course provided an excellent opportunity for those people involved at the highest level to learn, recap and implement important safety measures that will benefit both our staff and our visitors.”
In addition, as the park gears up for the 2023 season, with bigger and better rides and attractions on the way, there is a firm focus on customer service and delivering the best possible guest experience for visitors.

As part of that commitment members of the management team completed the Liverpool Hospitality Visitor/ Tour Guide programme, a two-day customer service course run by People First International, covering principles of customer service, accessible and inclusive service, communication skills and sourcing information on local attractions and services.
Norman added: “In addition to health and safety, the customer experience is always at the forefront of our minds and I felt it was important for our management team who are responsible for delivering this to have the best possible training to pass down to their teams.”
