It seems like yesterday – hard to think it was nearly 30 years ago!

The first image shows an art exhibition on Picasso – Late Etchings as it went on display in Southport. It was one of an extensive range in the National Touring Exhibitions, supported by BT.

More art was going on display in Ainsdale, with two local artists displaying their works.

Southport has long been blessed with an impressive arts scene with not one but three theatres: Southport Theatre, Southport Arts Centre (now The Atkinson) and Southport Little Theatre.
This image shows a very smart looking civic night at Southport Arts Centre – do you recognise which group this is, or which show was being performed that night? Among those pictured are well known arts patrons Gwen Storey, Eric Storey and Joan Pettitt.

St Cuthbert’s Church in Churchtown in Southport is one of the oldest and most impressive in England.

There was a very happy occasion when Mrs Edith Alice Barr celebrated her 100th birthday with a special Mayoral visit to go with her birthday greetings from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
