Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust paid tribute to its apprentices as part of a national week of celebration.

Staff were asked to nominate their apprentices for a special recognition award as part of National Apprenticeship Week and a host of quality nominations were received from across the organisation.

The award went to Robert Coppell, a Nurse Associate, with awards also going to Victoria Webster, an Operating Department Practitioner and Megan Bell from the Finance Department.

Robert’s nomination stated: “He spent many hours studying at home and at the university library doing wider reading and using every opportunity to gain skills and knowledge to achieve his learning goals.

“He is extremely hard working and maintains and promotes the Trust values, showing care and compassion towards patients and staff.’’

The awards were presented by Chief Operations Officer. Lesley Neary, who said: “We really do value all our apprentices and it is amazing to see the work they produce across all areas of the Trust.

“Congratulations to all our nominees and finalists. It’s clear that we have many highly respected members of staff who are an asset to the trust.

“I was humbled to read all the award applications and read about the compassion shown for patients and colleagues. Although we had to pick out three people, everyone should feel incredibly proud of their achievements.

“Robert’s commitment to continuous learning for himself and others is to be commended. Despite challenges, Robert has achieved his own learning goals and his support to new staff is fantastic and a true testament to his passion on sharing his learning.’’
