Many catering teams at this year’s Southport Flower Show will be swapping traditional pointed kitchen knives for a safer alternative, thanks to a donation from Liverpool-based housewares brand Viners.

The brand, which is part of The Rayware Group, has provided its innovative Assure knife range for use across the show’s catering tents, replacing conventional pointed-tip knives with a distinctive rounded-tip design without compromising on their effectiveness as an everyday kitchen tool.

The initiative reflects a growing conversation around the role of pointed knives in the home and supports Viners’ wider partnership with Leanne Lucas and the Let’s Be Blunt campaign, which encourages households across the UK to consider making the switch to rounded-tip alternatives.

Designed with safety in mind, the Viners Assure collection replaces the traditional pointed end with a rounded tip while retaining the functionality needed for chopping, slicing and preparing food. Every knife provided for use within the Southport Flower Show catering tents will come from the Assure range, demonstrating how a simple change in design can offer a practical alternative in busy kitchens.

With Viners owned by The Rayware Group, a family-owned housewares company headquartered in Liverpool, the partnership also brings a strong local connection to one of the North West’s best-loved annual events.

Jamie O’Brien, CEO of The Rayware Group, said:

“We’re proud to support Leanne Lucas and the Let’s Be Blunt campaign in encouraging people to think differently about the knives they use every day.

“We believe small and thoughtful changes to product design can help create safer kitchens. By simply rounding the tip, Assure retains everything you need from an effective kitchen knife while offering an alternative to the conventional pointed design.

“Seeing the Assure range being put to work across the catering tents at such a prominent local event is a great example of how straightforward it can be to make that change.”

Taking place at Victoria Park from Thursday 20 to Sunday 23 August, Southport Flower Show is one of the region’s best-known annual events.

The Viners Assure range was developed following research involving more than 1,700 consumers and was created in partnership with safety experts, campaigners and the police. The knives are designed to perform the everyday functions expected of a kitchen knife without the conventional pointed tip.
