With the pause in Premier League games this December due to the 2022 World Cup, fans from clubs such as Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are being invited to experience some top-quality non-league football.

Southport FC, challenging for promotion in the National League North, have two crucial Saturday home league games coming up at Haig Avenue against Scarborough Athletic (3rd December) and Boston United (10th December) and would love to see as many supporters as possible cheering them on.

There are also several corporate opportunities available for local firms eager to show their support for local grassroots football.

The Sandgrounders are currently in 8th place, just one point away from the play-off places, as they head into an exciting run of fixtures this December.

Southport FC Head of Commercial and Operations Steve Dewsnip said: “Southport’s next home game is on Saturday (3rd December) against Scarborough Athletic, and we’re all looking forward to it.

“In line with the rest of the National League, we will be having an earlier kick-off of 12.30pm, with an eye on the Round Of 16 games later that day which could potentially feature either England or Wales depending on how results go over the next few days.

“We will be screening the games here at Haig Avenue in the 1881 Lounge after our own game.

“The following Saturday (10th December), we have a home league game against Boston United at 3pm, when we will be screening World Cup Quarter Final games. Fans can enjoy watching Southport, followed by World Cup games in the 1881 Lounge.

“We also have our annual Club Christmas Party in the 1881 Lounge that evening. Ticket details for supporters will be released shortly.

“It is strange to have a winter World Cup. We are all getting used to it.

“It means quite a sizeable break in the Premier League calendar, and that brings quite an opportunity for us.

“We are hoping that the absence of any Premier League fixtures will encourage more football fans to want to explore the world of non-league football, and Southport in particular.

“I would like to reach out to fans of nearby Premier League clubs such as Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United, who would normally spend their Saturdays at Goodison Park, Anfield, The Etihad Stadium or Old Trafford, to instead come to Haig Avenue in Southport for a change and to experience all the excitement, entertainment and experiences that non-league football can bring.

“I believe we offer a great product both on and off the pitch for people to enjoy, and we are always keen to offer that to more people.”

The invitation doesn’t just extend to local fans, but to local companies as well.

Steve Dewsnip said: “We have many different corporate opportunities available for local firms to get involved with Southport Football Club whether that is as an advertiser at the ground, or whether as a match sponsor, or a match ball sponsor, or by joining us in our hospitality section with a delicious two course meal on match day.

“There are many ways in which businesses can get involved, to each of our mutual benefits.

“We recognise that times are tough and that the economic climate is a bit challenging.

“When compared to the cost of many other professional football matches or entertainment hospitality settings, the matchday experience at Haig Avenue provides fantastic value for money and a great day out that is hard to beat.”
