Southport FC fell to a seventh defeat in a row after a disappointing 3-1 home defeat – the last home game of the season – to an impressive looking Kidderminster Harriers side.

Manager Liam Watson spoke from the heart after the game and described the performance as woeful and hinted at a number of changes in the close season.

The visitors took the lead after just 20 seconds and Southport were on the back foot from then on.

It was a lacklustre showing but the equaliser came through a penalty after Adam Anson was felled in the box. Charlie Oliver stepped up and comfortably fired home.

This only seemed to spur the visitors on and goals in the 70th and 77th minutes enabled a fairer reflection on the scoreline.

Results elsewhere do mean that barring a 7 goal turnaround with Blyth and Kettering winning at Kidderminster on Saturday we will be playing National League North football again next season.

Southport FC are 18th in the National League North table, three points above the relegation zone with one game left to play, but with a goal difference seven goals better than Blyth Spartans in the final relegation spot.

Their final game is away at Leamington next Saturday (29th April).
