Southport FC 0 Boston United 2

The first game under the caretaker manager pair of Andy Burgess and David Morgan ended in a 2-0 home defeat.

The wrong result but a much improved performance all round.

It was the Sandgrounders’ fourth consecutive defeat of the season as they continue to seek their first win.

Southport FC are clearly missing an end product, there was some good build up play with a number of opportunities but that lack of finish is proving costly.

Boston opened the scoring in the 42nd minute through Keaton Ward who fired home after a defensive lapse.

The second half was even with the home side playing some neat football with Fin Heath who was brought in to replace the ill Jack Bainbridge making his first league start and having a fine game in midfield and relishing the role.

Boston went 2-0 up through a penalty after David Morgan brought down Jimmy Knowles in the area, he stepped up to coolly covert the spot kick.

Andy Burgess was philosophical in his post match assesment of the game and now has a full week to work with the squad before the tough trip to Brackley next Saturday.
