Southport Education Group is delighted to announce a new partnership with Southport Football Club that will see a significant investment in the sports facilities at KGV Sixth Form College.

As part of this collaboration, the playing fields at KGV will be completely refreshed, creating two full-size football pitches and one 9-a-side pitch.

These top-quality facilities will be used by college students during the day and will serve as the official training ground for Southport FC.

This regeneration of the football fields has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Old Georgians’ Association and the KGV Education Foundation, whose continued commitment to the legacy and future of KGV Sixth Form has enabled this transformational project to go ahead.

Their investment will ensure that current and future students benefit from exceptional sporting facilities for years to come.

In a move that reflects the shared commitment to excellence, Southport Football Club will take on the maintenance of the playing fields, ensuring both the college and the club benefit from first-class training environments throughout the year.

The partnership will also see a full refurbishment of the college’s existing pavilion. Once completed, the upgraded pavilion will house state-of-the-art home and away changing rooms, a fully equipped gym and treatment rooms – all designed to support the development and wellbeing of both student athletes and club players.

David Cunningham, Joint Owner of Southport Football Club, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to have secured this long-term partnership with KGV Sixth Form College and deliver what is a landmark moment in Southport FC’s history.

“For the first time, the club now has a dedicated full-time training facility, laying the foundations for future success both on and off the pitch.

“After years of false promises and delays at other sites, we’ve been able to get this over the line in just a matter of weeks.

“It’s a major step forward and reflects our commitment to building a professional, sustainable future for Southport FC.

“As part of this project, we’re also committed to maintaining a number of pitches for wider community use, ensuring this facility benefits not only the club, but the people of Southport as well.”

Michelle Brabner, Principal / CEO of Southport Education Group, said:

“We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Southport Football Club to enhance the sporting provision for our students and the wider community. This collaboration not only strengthens our ties with a key local sports institution, but it also reflects our ongoing commitment to providing outstanding opportunities for young people across Southport and Sefton.”

This exciting development marks a new chapter for both organisations and represents a shared vision for investment in youth, education and community sport.
