The Stanley High School Team – winners of the team challenge

Southport College invited six of its partner high schools on to campus to compete in an inter schools skills challenge on Friday (25th March).

The event, which was the first of its kind in the area, saw 60 year 9 children entering and competing in challenges right across the curriculum, including Engineering, Construction, Travel & Tourism, Professional Cookery and Photography & Media, as well as more general team challenges too.

The theme for the day was sustainability and the competitors rose beautifully to the challenge, wowing the judges with their ideas, professionalism and real passion for their subjects.

Winners received a medal, voucher and a book relating to their specific challenge and the school that won the team challenge (Stanley High School this year) also went home with a large silver trophy.

The Skills Challenge, which gives the pupils a chance to work with new tutors and to experience the professional workshops, kitchens and learning environments the college offers was such a success it is now set to be an annual event and many of today’s schools have already said they can’t wait to take part next year too!

College Principal Michelle Brabner, who presented the winners prizes at the end of the day said “It has been a superb day and I would like to thank all the staff and pupils of our partner high schools for their brilliant participation.  Events like these are a wonderful learning experience for the pupils and really open up our college to the whole community. We look forward to hosting lots more!”

The high schools competing this time were Greenbank, Birkdale, Christ the King, Stanley, St Bedes and Savio Salesian College.
