Southport celebrated International Women’s Day with a special event which saw hundreds of pounds raised for Queenscourt Hospice. 

Guests gathered at The Grand on Lord Street on Friday (8th March 2024) as they enjoyed a welcome drink and delicious two-course meal; live music; and inspirational speakers. 

Speaking on the day were: Alison Lobb, Managing Partner at Morecrofts Solicitors; Allison Furlong, CEO of Alfie’s Squad; Dr Rebecca Loy, Diversity and Inclusion Partner at National Museums Liverpool; and Debbie-Lyn Connolly-Lloyd, Owner of Debbie-Lyn Apparel at Wayfarers Shopping Arcade in Southport.

The host was local actor and West End star John Coates, who has been involved in productions including Sweeney Todd, Billy Elliot, Calamity Jane, Beauty and the Beast, South Pacific and Show Boat.

Diners were entertained by talented local singer Kelly Bond. 

The International Women’s Day event was sponsored by Morecrofts Solicitors and was held in association with Hatter’s Digital Agency. 

A Queenscourt Hospice spokesperson said: 

“Queenscourt Hospice celebrated International Women’s Day, with a glamorous afternoon set at The Grand in Southport.

“The event brought together guest speakers as well as local businesses to celebrate the importance of inclusivity and diversity.

“We would like to give a special mention to our fantastic host John Coates, and the incredible guest speakers: Alison Lobb, Allison Furlong, Dr Rebecca Loy, and Debbie-Lyn Connolly-Lloyd.

“Furthermore, we would like to congratulate all the raffle winners and thank everyone who donated prizes for the raffle which raised £800 for our hospice. 

“What a fantastic day filled with inspiration and love. This day would not have been possible without the support from local businesses and individuals who attended.”
