A Southport artist has raised £600 for Elsie’s Story, Bebe’s Hive and Alice’s WonderDance through a silent auction of one of his artworks during The 154th Open Golf Championship.
Neil Prior donated a golf-themed work titled ‘The Perfect Swing’ to the three local causes while visitors from around the world were in town to enjoy the golf at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport.
He invited bids through his silent auction, with the highest being £600.
He said: “I’m pleased to have been able to raise £600 for three superb local charities through a silent auction of one of my works.
“While the painting was on display, someone came past with a photo from The Open in 1967 featuring four players – Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Bill Rogers.
“He allowed me to include the picture as part of the auction which was a great addition.
“The winning bid eventually was made by a local man in Birkdale, and I’m delighted that it has gone to a good home.”
