Take a look at a brilliant original picture celebrating a real Southport icon!
‘Local Hero’ has been created by Southport artist Grant Searl, in tribute to Dan Dare – ‘Space Pilot Of The Future’, the hero of Eagle comic.
Grant painstakingly designed ‘Local Hero’ outside his shop, the Grant Searl Art – The Northerner art gallery in Wayfarers Shopping Arcade on Lord Street in Southport town centre.

He used copies of Eagle comics to make his artwork – it was great to see him at work on his easel inside the arcade.
It makes a difference when you can meet the artist behind the artwork!
The painting is now on sale in Grant Searl’s art gallery, as truly one of a kind.
Eagle comic was launched in Southport by Rev Marcus Morris and Frank Hampson and ran from 1950 until 1994.
The first issue sold 900,000 and was revolutionary when it appeared.
It often sold over a million copies a week.
