People from Southport were joined by supporters from across the world as they wore yellow to honour Bebe’s Hive and World Bee Day.
The Atkinson, Southport Town Hall and Bootle Town Hall were all lit yellow on Tuesday evening (20th May 2025).
Churchtown Village was decorated throughout in yellow ribbons.
The special event was held to support Bebe’s Hive and World Bee Day.

Bebe’s Hive was created in memory of Southport girl Bebe King.
It was created by Bebe’s parents to provide a safe place where grieving children can find creativity and connection.
Bebe’s Hive said: “It’s a day we will treasure for the rest of our lives. Thank you to every single person who made World Bee Day what it was.”
Many children in Southport and people heading into work wore something yellow for the day including the teams at Birkdale Insurance, United Legal Assistance, SEP Insurance and others.

The Southport Strollers wore yellow as they ran on Tuesday night.
People posted pictures of them wearing yellow to honour the occasion.
Bebe’s Hive is now keen to make this an annual event.

Bebe’s Hive said:
“Well that escalated quickly.
“World Bee Day turned out to be so much bigger than we ever imagined.
“Honestly, we still can’t find the words to express our gratitude.
“People from Southport, across the UK, and even as far as Australia wore yellow to honour Bebe and to show support for @Bebeshiveuk and @Elsiedotstory.

“I did my very best to share every single tag. I think I nearly got them all. If not, it could be to do with privacy settings.
“I replied to almost every message, paying particular attention to the ones that came through privately, showing us how you marked the day in your own quiet, beautiful ways.
“It was an absolute privilege.
“It was also a complete rollercoaster.
“As a friend of mine would say…
“I had more than a few “menty B’s” along the way.

“At first, we were gutted not to be there in person, but truthfully… it was probably for the best.
“If I had been, you’d likely have found me being dragged through Churchtown Village in a yellow heap of emotion.
“Watching from afar was the softer choice and now, it’s a day we will treasure for the rest of our lives.
“Thank you to every single person who made yesterday what it was.
“To my incredible friends, Bebe’s ‘Strong Girls Club’ (muthahood), our incredible Bebe’s Hive team, and to our family — you keep us above water.

“We get a lot of messages about our strength and most of the time, we don’t feel strong at all.
“But something happens when it’s for Bebe, or for Bebe’s Hive. Something shifts. Something lights up.
“On World Bee Day, a lovely lady shared a line from a film, that put it into words perfectly, and is summarised below…
“When someone we love is gone, their energy doesn’t just disappear, it’s still here.
“It changes form.
“It lives on in the people they loved, in the moments they would have loved, in the light that carries their name…
“Spot on.
“Same time next year?”
