Thrill-seeking NHS workers, families and friends raised more than £2,200 for Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals Charity by abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral.
Not even high winds could deter 18 daredevil fundraisers as they took to the roof of Liverpool Cathedral to plummet 150ft down the iconic building, all to raise valuable funds that will benefit patient care in the area’s two hospitals.
One of the fundraisers was staff member Erica Isherwood. She said:
“The abseil was definitely something that was out of my comfort zone, but I really enjoyed it.
“It was an experience I won’t forget and to raise money for the hospital charity at the same time was an added bonus.’’

The charity’s fundraising assistant, Vicky Heaven said the event proved to be a great success. She said:
“I’m incredibly proud of everyone who gave up their time to take part in this challenge, raising an awesome amount of money.
“They really pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and proved the sky is never the limit when it comes to fundraising.”
She added: “Every penny we raise is vital.
“Donations enable us to provide activities to help patients, and their families, to feel that bit better every day with a host of initiatives including specialist arts therapies for dementia care, play workers for our children’s ward, facilities for bereavement counselling, and services for families with loved ones in our care.’’
