The Sidney Road Lights in Southport will celebrate Red Nose Day and St Patrick's Day

The Sidney Road Lights display in Southport has a double cause for celebration tonight.

The lights installation will alternate between turning red and green for Red Nose Day and St Patrick’s Day!

The lights are free to admire but donations, as ever, will be taken for Freshfields Animal Rescue

The lights are the brainchild of local engineer Steve Henshall.

He said: “Friday night poses a problem as it’s both Red Nose Day and St Patrick’s Day!

“After much sleeping and snoozing Jaffa, our cat, has decided we should have two shows on the one night.

“The plan is: Red Nose Day 6pm until 8pm then St Patrick’s Day 8pm until 9.30pm.

“We’re not going to be out with sweets and hot chocolate but if the spirit moves you please head over to Freshfields Animal Rescue page and make a donation which would be really appreciated, even £1 would make a difference.

“Please walk or drive past if you can tonight and have a quick look at what we’re doing, another chance to see The Chocolate Whirled Express lit up in all its glory, please take a trip to their superlative dessert cafe, workshop and artisan chocolate shop on Manchester Road by the Shell station and traffic lights. After all it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday.

“These photos are from last year – it goes without saying this year’s show will be much better!”
