Southport BID feature for Stand Up For Southport

Have you seen the famous Southport dinosaurs yet?

You’d better hurry as the brilliant DinoTown attraction, created by Southport BID, is here until Sunday! (14th April 2024).

Thousands of families have enjoyed walking through Southport town centre to discover the series of incredible brick-built dinosaur models and hunting giant chocolate eggs.

Local businesses have also joined in the fun, offering a range of fun activities suitable for little ones, families, and dino-fanatics of all ages to enjoy.

We’ve also loved seeing all your delightful dinosaur pictures, posted across social media platforms such as Stand Up For Southport, Your Southport and elsewhere.

Here are SEVEN DinoTown related activities happening in Southport that you can enjoy!

Walk with BRICKOSAURS

Unless you’ve been living under a prehistoric rock, you may have noticed that we have had some visitors in Southport recently.

15 brick-built models, consisting of over 550,000 bricks, can be viewed around the town centre as part of the BRICKOSAURS exhibition.  Budding Dino Rangers can discover the amazing dinosaurs and enter a competition by finding facts and figures along the way.

Get snappin’ at Dino Selfie Zones

Visit the Dino Selfie Zones at ASDA Southport and Silcock’s Flavours Ice Cream Parlour for some fun photo opportunity with even more BRICKOSAUR models.  Pose in the jaws of a gigantic Megolosuar at ASDA and spot the Lystrosauras dinosaur model.  At Flavours Ice Cream Parlour, do your best Ranger impression at the interactive selfie wall.

You can enter your pictures here to be in with the chance of winning some great prizes.

Take part in dinosaur-themed arts and crafts

On Thursday 11 April, both The Atkinson and Doodles Craft Room have craft activities taking place.

The Atkinson are putting a prehistoric spin on their brilliant Make it! Craft Workshop, which takes place between 11am-3pm and is suitable for the whole family.

The fantastic Doodles Craft Room have their Kids Dinosaur Crafts event on at the same time.  Head down to Cambridge Walks to create some fun dinosaur art.

Can’t choose between the two?  Luckily the two venues couldn’t be closer, which means there is plenty of time to enjoy both activities!

Grab a snack on your travels

All this exploration takes a lot of effort, so don’t forget to stop of for a bite to eat during your adventure.

Some Southport eateries even have DinoTown specials for the occasion.  Walkers on Wesley Street have cooked up a tasty, one-off Dinosaur burger and The Pavilion Cafe, Bar and Bistro are serving up dinosaur muffins.  The perfect snack before you find those last few BRICKOSAURS!

Discover hidden chocolate eggs

Have you spotted any of the giant chocolate dinosaur eggs in Southport recently?

You can discover six hidden in locations around the town centre as part of the ‘Dinormous Egg Hunt’.  Best of all, you could be in with the chance of winning one of the giant 25kg eggs to take home!

That’s not forgetting the fun at Ocean Plaza, where there is a ‘Mini Dino Egg Hunt’ taking place.  Find all the eggs (big or small) at Vue Cinema and Matalan, and once again you could be in with the chance of winning a Dinormous Egg.
