Christmas at Wayfarers Arcade in Southport

Get ready for a VERY festive weekend in Southport with lots going on for families!

1 – Ice Skating Southport

Ice skating is back at Victoria Park in Southport! 

The exciting family attraction is here from Friday 1st December 2023 with tickets available here.

Ice Skating Southport has been brought back after proving to be extremely popular with families last year. 

It’s a great way for families to enjoy the Christmas season in Southport, with skating for all the family, a heated Bavarian themed bar, music nights and more.

Christmas is coming to Wayfarers Shopping Arcade in Southport town centre this December! 

The iconic Victorian arcade – which is celebrating its 125th birthday this year – looks beautiful with all its festive decorations in place. 

This Saturday (2nd December 2023) see the Christmas Grotto opening at Wayfarers Shopping Arcade on Lord Street. 

The Grotto will be open over four weekends, plus extra days leading up to Christmas. 

There is no need to book. Just turn up. 

Enjoy a Santa visit and a quality gift for £10 per child. 

There is more festive fun coming too with free festive pantomime shows!

3 – Southport Santa Sprint

The 2023 Southport Santa Sprint will see the town turn red on Sunday, 3rd December 2023, with people invited to turn up and take part via the Queenscourt Hospice website

Runners start and end the event and end at Silcock’s Funland before making Southport’s coastline become a sea of Santas.

Once again there will be both a 3k and a 5k route for you to walk, jog or run.

4 – Birkdale Christmas Lights Switch On

The hugely anticipated Birkdale Village Christmas Fayre returns this weekend, turning the whole of Birkdale Village in Southport into a winter wonderland.

The Christmas Fayre will take place this Sunday (3rd December 2023) between 11am and 6pm. 

The event sees the return of fairground rides for both young children and adults. Father Christmas himself will be walking around the village to greet all children.

Birkdale traders have special offerings on the day and there will also be a host of external traders offering varied goods from cakes, art and jewellery.

It will be the perfect opportunity to start your Christmas shopping with hand-crafted gifts, perfect for those seeking one-of-a-kind gifts for loved ones.

5 – Southport Charity Christmas Parade

Southport Charity Christmas Parade is back in Southport this Sunday! (3rd December 2023). 

The biggest vehicle light parade in the North West will take place between around 5pm and 6.30pm. 

There will be celebrity appearances by Father Christmas, Mary Christmas and their elves! 

The event is organised by local people, giving back to local people. 

This year’s parade will start from Southport Eco Centre on the Esplanade. 

It will then head down: Southport Promenade; Leicester Street; Lord Street; Lulworth Road; Liverpool Road; finishing on Kenilworth Road. 

6 – Bear and Reindeer Christmas Trail

To celebrate the arrival of the brand-new character illuminations, people are invited to take part in The Bear and The Reindeer Christmas Trail, which has been created by Southport BID.

Artworks featuring the characters are being displayed in the windows of businesses across Southport town centre.  

Use the clues in each picture to answer the questions listed on the trail maps.

One winner will receive a Nintendo Switch with games from GAME Southport.

7 – Scrooge

Scrooge is a 1970 musical film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 story A Christmas Carol. It was filmed in London between January and May 1970 and directed by Ronald Neame, and starred Albert Finney as Ebenezer Scrooge.
