Southport Pleasureland is inviting people to nominate children who have shown remarkable courage for a very special award.

The attraction is once again sponsoring the Child of Courage category in the annual Pride Of Sefton Awards.

The glittering night of celebration will take place at The Grand on Lord Street in Southport on Friday, 26th April 2024.

Nominating couldn’t be easier – please submit your details via the Pride Of Sefton Awards website: prideofseftonawards.co.uk or email: standupforsouthport@gmail.com

The Pride Of Sefton Awards are organised by Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group and Stand Up For Southport in association with media partners In Demand Radio.

There are 13 categories, including the Child of Courage Award, sponsored by Southport Pleasureland.

Organisers are seeking nominees who have shown immense courage in the face of adversity. Courage comes in different shapes – is it a child who has battled illness, performed an act of bravery or done something truly remarkable while up against the odds?

Last year, two children were selected to receive the Child of Courage Award – Jessica Dowle and Theo Graham. Both children were gifted family passes by Southport Pleasureland to enjoy a day at the park.

Children’s champion Jessica Dowle, has had a colostomy stoma since the age of four years old. She has made huge efforts to raise awareness for children with stomas. Jessica became a leading ambassador for the charity A Bear Named Buttony, which she raised over £24,000 for. Jessica has been an inspiration to many, including Radio 1 DJ Adele Roberts on her own cancer journey, whilst still battling daily herself.

Theo Graham was born 10 weeks prematurely. Since then, Theo and his family have raised funds for Ormskirk Neonatal Unit through various events, raising enough money for a transport incubator. Theo has been a patient of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, which gave Theo a wonderful role as a Young Ambassador for his commitment and dedication to his fundraising.

CEO of Southport Pleasureland, Normal Wallis, said:

“Meeting Jessica and Theo last year, hearing their extraordinary stories and discovering how they have demonstrated immense courage was truly humbling.

“There are so many individuals doing incredible things in Sefton.

“The Pride of Sefton Awards are a fantastic initiative, giving us as a community a reason to come together and celebrate the efforts of those going above and beyond to make Sefton a special place to live and work.

“Southport Pleasureland is proud to be an inclusive park. We’re delighted to be able to help recognise children doing remarkable things in our community.”

Southport Pleasureland is the perfect sponsor for this category, having been dedicated to family entertainment since it first opened its gates 110 years ago.

Southport Pleasureland CEO Norman Wallis said: “Our business is to provide happy experiences and space for children and families to relax, have fun and enjoy themselves. We happen to believe there’s no better business to be in.”

People and groups who go above and beyond to make Sefton a special place for all will be presented with their trophies and given thanks in the Princess Grace Suite at The Grand on Lord Street in Southport town centre on Friday, 26th April 2024.

The unmissable night in the Merseyside events calendar will be presented by Claire Simmo and Fraser Dainton.

All those on the shortlist will be invited to a special celebratory meal in beautiful surroundings while the awards are presented, with a night of superb entertainment planned.

Nominations are still being invited across all 13 categories ahead of the closing date on 22nd March 2024.

Organisers are looking for nominations, across Southport, Formby, Crosby, Bootle, Maghull and elsewhere in the borough of Sefton.
